The Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson swore in new members of the Council of Convocation at the Council Chamber of the University on 31st January 2024.
The 10-member Council of Convocation, chaired by Dr. Emmanuel De-Graft Johnson Owusu-Ansah, includes Professor (Mrs.) Cynthia A. Danquah, Professor Hannah Vivian Osei, Dr. (Mrs.) Akosua M. Amankwah, Dr. Yaw Mensah Asare, Dr. Kwame Mireku, Dr. Frimpong Twum, Mr. Foster Sedem Dedume, and Mrs. Anna A. Owusu Ansah as members, with Mr. Charles Owusu-Antwi serving as the clerk.
The Registrar of the University, Mr. Andrew Kwasi Boateng, outlined the functions of the Council of Convocation. He tasked them with ensuring that decisions of Convocation are carried out, studying all University events to bring matters of interest to the Convocation's attention, safeguarding the interests of individual members, and proposing improvements to the Convocation for the proper functioning of the University.
Dr. Emmanuel DeGraft Johnson Owusu-Ansah, Chairman of the Council of Convocation, commended University Management for their continued support. On behalf of the members, he promised to collaborate with Management to continue the work of the outgoing Council, deliver their mandate, and give out their best.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson welcomed the Council Members on behalf of Management and thanked the outgoing members for their outstanding work. She congratulated the new members for availing themselves and noted the significant responsibilities placed on them.
She highlighted the importance of the Council of Convocation to the University and encouraged them to strive for the betterment of members and the University as a whole. She underlined their crucial role in fostering continuous improvement, which is a key agenda of the University. Professor Dickson assured them of Management's full support.
